Who We Are

Our Mission is a Loving Home for Every Greyhound

At Greyhaven, we believe that every greyhound deserves more than a finish line, they deserve a fresh start. Our mission is rooted in compassion, care, and a lifelong commitment to the wellbeing of retired racing greyhounds.

  • Niall & Grace

From the home check to the follow-up calls, Greyhaven was amazing. They clearly care deeply about each dog. Alfie now rules the house, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • Sinead

Greyhaven helped us find the perfect match for our home and lifestyle. Bella has brought so much love into our lives. I only wish we’d adopted sooner.

  • Ciarán

I was a bit nervous adopting a retired racer, but Finn has been an absolute dream. He settled in so quickly and loves his walks. The Greyhaven team was with us every step of the way.

  • Aoife & Mark

Adopting Ruby was the best decision we ever made. She’s so calm and affectionate, and it’s clear she just wants to be near us. Greyhaven made the whole process feel personal and supportive.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know that welcoming a retired greyhound into your home is a special and sometimes unfamiliar experience. That’s why we’ve compiled answers to the questions we hear most, from greyhound care to the adoption process. If there’s something else on your mind, we’re always here to help.

1Are greyhounds good with children?

Yes, greyhounds are known for being calm and gentle, making them great companions for respectful kids.

2Can I adopt a greyhound if I live in an apartment?

Definitely. Greyhounds are surprisingly low-energy indoors and adapt well to smaller living spaces.

3Do greyhounds need a lot of exercise?

Not at all. Two short walks a day and some playtime are usually enough to keep them happy.

4Can I let my greyhound off the lead?

Only in secure, enclosed areas. Their strong prey drive means they may not return if something catches their attention.

5Are greyhounds good with other pets?

Many are! With proper introductions, greyhounds can live happily with cats, dogs, and other animals.

6What is involved in the home check?

A relaxed visit or video call to ensure your home is a safe, suitable environment for adoption.

7How much does it cost to adopt a greyhound?
  1. Adoption fees vary depending on the rehoming centre you choose. We work closely with trusted centres across the UK, and each may have its own pricing to cover essential veterinary care and preparation.

8Will my greyhound need special food?

We recommend Time Maintenance & Retired, formulated specifically for greyhounds post-racing.

9What support do you offer post-adoption?

We offer lifelong advice and behavioural support.

10How long does the adoption process take?

It varies, but most matches are made within 1–3 weeks after a successful home check.
